The Atlantic County Workforce Development Board
The WDB is comprised of 36 representatives, shared between Atlantic and Cape May Counties. Meetings are conducted quarterly at locations throughout the community. These meetings are open to the public. The March 24th meeting will be held at America Works, 8025 Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City, NJ.
Atlantic County Workforce Development Board Executive Committee
The members of this Committee include a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson who are both private sector members. The purpose of this Committee is to oversee the operations and administration of the WDB and to make policy recommendations to the full Board. This Committee established the parameters to facilitate WDB goals and objectives in order to accomplish WIB tasks. The Executive Committee has the authority to vote on behalf of the full Board when time does not permit a full board session. The Executive Board meets quarterly at 9:00 a.m. at the Atlantic County Workforce Development Office in downtown Pleasantville. These meetings are not open to the public.
Business Development Committee
This Committee is comprised of private and public sector members with the goal to bridge the gap between the small to mid-sized business community and the local workforce development system. Goals include: (1) Identify employment needs of the business community. (2) Match the right employees to the right employers. (3) Effectively communication hiring incentives and recruitment services. Meetings are generally held at the Atlantic Cape May Office of Workforce Development, 2 South Main St., 2nd Floor, Pleasantville, NJ 08232 at 11:00 a.m.
Disability Workforce Committee
Enable individuals with disabilities to have universal access and integrated services within the Office of Workforce Development. Ensure that the Workforce Development Board (WDB) policies and program strategies provide employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Meetings are held at the Community Quest, Inc.6814 Tilton Road, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 at 9:30 a.m.
Healthcare Workforce Committee
This Committee is made up of employers in the Healthcare Industry that plan, coordinate and implement strategies to address the labor shortage in some 25 different occupational titles in the industry. Recently, the Committee was awarded a $1.3 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration to build a Allied Health Institute in Atlantic City. Literacy Workforce Committee
The Committee consists of the One Stop Operator, three private industry members and representatives from the Literacy Consortium program. The planning committee will provide direction and oversight of the operations of the literacy system in the bi-county region. The Committee develops strategies to address issues of workplace literacy that impact job readiness and employment. The literacy system includes: Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Equivalency Diploma test preparation (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), Workforce Learning Links and Consortium programs. Meetings begin promptly at 2:30 p.m. and held at the Atlantic County One Stop Career Center, 2 S. Main St., Pleasantville.
Formed in 2010 to recruit and retain members, the Committee consists of four Board members to maintain and accept nominations for membership, develop procedures for nomination and appointment; and create an orientation guide to provide ongoing professional development. The Committee has stated that the most difficult category of the Board to fill is private sector members. Reasons cited include: industry based in Cape May County is comprised of small business owners who cannot commit time to actively participate and the overall economic climate of the region. To ensure a diverse membership, when vacancies occur on the Board, the Membership Committee will solicit nominations from partnering agencies, such as the Chambers of Commerce to maintain the composition of the Board. The meetings begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and are held in the 2nd Floor Conference Room at the Atlantic County One Stop Career Center in Pleasantville, NJ.
One Stop Oversight Committee
This Committee oversees the Atlantic Cape May One Stop System, which is comprised of local partner agencies that are directly reponsible for delivering employment and social service related services to the public. The One Stop Oversight Committee meets quarterly at various locations in the community. Meeting dates and times vary. These meetings are not open to the public.
Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council is comprised of members from the private and public sector members and educational institutions. As a collaborative committee, the group is charged with developing a broad based plan to address the education, employment and training needs of the youth population; specifically at risk, out of school youth. Additionally, the committee members are responsible for participating in a comprehensive planning effort to identify service gaps and make recommendations to the YIC for implementation.Meetings are generally held at UFCW, Local 152 in Mays Landing, New Jersey at 9:30 a.m. The February 23, 2016 meeting will be held at the Cape May County Special Services School.
