What is a Request for Proposals (RFP)?
An RFP is an acronym for request for proposal, a business term
referring to a request for bids on a specific product or service.
It includes a formal process in which potential suppliers
of services or vendors of products are solicited to meet pre-defined
needs of an organization.
Our local procedures for RFP's include:
1. A legal notice is placed in the paper which advertises the
release of the RFP. The advertised RFP will include a summary of
the requested program/services, the start date for picking up the
RFP, the day and time the proposal is due and also the day and
time of the mandatory technical assistance meeting.
2. After the technical assistance meeting, the proposals
are typically due within three to four weeks.
3. Once all proposals are received an RFP review committee
is assembled, the proposals are reviewed and the awards are made.
4. All successful proposals/agencies will be notified within
a few days and then asked to attend a meeting to discuss the terms
of the impending contract.
Disclaimer: Applying agencies must attend a mandatory technical
assistance meeting. Those who do not will forfeit the opportunity
to apply and be considered for funding.
